GTBank Gambia donates Ebola sanitizers to Health Ministry

October 8, 2014

Guaranty Trust Bank last Thursday donated several cartons of Ebola sanitizers worth D100,000 to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare at a presentation ceremony, held at the conference hall of the Ministry at the Quadrangle in Banjul.

The donation of the sanitizers will serve as a welcome boost to the Health Ministry, as the government of The Gambia continues to fight tirelessly against the entry of the disease into the country.

Since March 2014, over 3,000 people have died because of the Ebola virus throughout the West African countries of Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria. In addition to the enormous and tragic loss of human life, the Ebola epidemic is having devastating effects on these West African economies in a variety of essential sectors, by halting trade, hurting agriculture and scaring investors.

Speaking at the occasion, the managing director of the bank, Bolaji Ayodele said “this is not the first time GTBank is donating to the health sector,” noting that in the past the bank has renovated Brikama Health Centre. He added that this time around their contribution is centred on the fight against Ebola.

In receiving the items, Dr. Omar Sey, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, thanked the bank for their timely intervention, adding that the bank has been immensely contributing towards the health sector.

He promised the donors that the donated materials will be distributed among the health workers throughout the country, adding that the materials are essential towards the fight against the disease. Minister Sey then thanked the bank for their continuous support towards the health sector.
