Getting Started

You will need the following documents to apply for an NRN account:

  1. Duly completed NRN Account Opening Form.
  2. Duly completed Self-Certification Form, Data Privacy Consent Form & Banker’s Confirmation Form.
  3. Valid National ID (NIN/vNIN).
  4. Notarized Foreign ID.
  5. Notarized Foreign Utility Bill, or Stamped Foreign Bank Statement issued within the last 3 months.
  6. Your recent passport photo with full face forward.
  7. BVN.
  8. Identification issued by employer, pay-slips, or statement of accounts from a bank in the country of residence.
  9. Reference letter confirmation from bank capturing Name, Date of Birth, Residential Addresses of the prospective customer (for cases where banker’s confirmation form cannot be filled out by bank).

Internet Banking

Internet banking launches you into a world without limits. It is a robust channel designed with the state-of –the-art technology that gives you unlimited access to your accounts and allows you conveniently perform your banking transactions online real-time.

As an NRN customer you can do the following via the Internet Banking platform:

  • View real time account balances and track up-to-the minute transactions on your accounts
  • Set up a standing order instruction to transfer funds from your account to other accounts within GTBank and other Banks in Nigeria (Direct debit) at a time decided by you.
  • Transfer funds instantly to beneficiaries with GTBank accounts or accounts in other banks
  • PIN change: Users can change their login PIN (password) at any time.

Debit Cards

We issue Naira and Dollar denominated debit cards issued in partnership with MasterCard and VISA.

Our cards comply with international standards as we utilize the most secure technology for card transactions – a microchip embedded in the card coupled with a four digit PIN.

The cards are accepted for payment at over 34 million locations and can be used for withdrawals at over 2.1 million ATMs in 210 countries worldwide, wherever the “MasterCard” or ‘’VISA’’ logo is displayed.

  • Cardholder's name, number and expiry date are printed on the front of the card.
  • Validity is for 3 years.
  • The 3 digit Card Validation Value (CVV2) is printed on the reverse side of the card, beside the signature panel

BVN Registration & Update

The Bank Verification Number (BVN) gives each Bank customer a unique identity across the Nigerian Banking industry that can be used for easy identification and verification at Point of Banking operations.

As an NRN account holder, you are required to enrol and update your records voluntarily with the bank by visiting any of the appointed OIS or VFS Centres.

If you have obtained your BVN from another Nigerian bank, you can link your BVN to your GTBank account online via our Internet Banking platform and Corporate website.

The Non Resident Nigerian service offering is a platform for Nigerians who reside outside the country to have access to the wide range of products and services the Bank presently offers

You will need the following documents to apply for an NRN account:

a. Duly completed NRN Account Opening Form

b. Your passport photo with full face forward

c. A copy of any of the following means of Identification:

  • Valid Nigerian International passport/National ID/Permanent Voters’ Card/Drivers’ License
  • Notarized Foreign International Passport/Drivers’ License
  • NIMC (See https://nimc.gov.ng/nimc-enrol... for list of enrolment centres)

d. Copy of any of the following as a proof of address:

  • One stamped reference letter or a stamped Banker's Confirmation obtained from your bank abroad that states your address stated on the account opening form.
  • Notarized Utility bill issued within the last three months for the address stated on the account opening form.
  • Bank or Credit Card statement issued within the last three months showing customer address. (to be stamped by your bank or Notarized).

e. References (either (i) or (ii) below) – For Current and/or Domiciliary accounts.

(i) A stamped reference letter or a stamped Banker’s confirmation obtained from your bank abroad.

(ii) Two completed reference forms from Current account holders (Nigerian) with any Nigerian Bank.

f. For Joint accounts, a copy of your marriage certificate is required.

PS: Documents that require notarization can be certified as a true copy of the original by a Notary Public or a Lawyer or by the Nigerian embassy or a Post Office or a GTBank Subsidiary staff

It is a total banking solution that provides the NRN customer instant service via a touch-tone or mobile phone. It is accessible from anywhere in the world and open for business 24 hours a day, seven days a week (Including public holidays) The NRN customer with a PIN password can do the following:

  • Check account(s) balances
  • Transfer funds between own accounts and to 3rd parties with accounts in GTBank
  • Request electronic cards
  • Request cheque books
  • Confirm cheques
  • Stop cheques
  • Reactivate dormant accounts

iv. Internet Banking:

The NRN customer with an internet banking password can do the following via the GTBank Internet Banking platform

  • View real time account balances and track up-to-the minute transactions on their accounts
  • Set up a standing order instruction to transfer funds to other accounts within GTBank and other Banks in Nigeria (Direct debit).
  • Transfer funds to beneficiaries with GTBank accounts or accounts in other banks via NEFT
  • Confirm cheques online and such confirmations are automatically registered on the Banking Application
  • Request for cheque books
  • Print Statement of account in PDF format or export to MS Excel format
  • PIN change: Users can change their login PIN (password) at any time

No, NRNs who have current accounts with GTBank UK do not require References to open NRN accounts.

No, they do not. Sighted copies of these documents by a GTBank staff is acceptable

A stamped Banker’s confirmation stating the customer’s address serves as a proof of address and a reference at the same time. Therefore, customers who provide this will not need to provide a reference or utility bill.

No, the NRN service is offered only to individuals and not to businesses. The customer will however be referred to the SME team.

Yes, these customers can visit GTBank UK for the submission of their NRN account opening package. They can also have their documents sighted by a GTBank UK officer in our London office.

  • Transferring funds directly from their foreign Bank account into their GTBank Domiciliary account.
  • Paying in Cheques and cash into their GTBank Naira account and cash (foreign currency) into their GTBank Domiciliary account in any GTBank Branch in Nigeria.

An NRN customer can access the following products and services:

Ans: Yes, local cheques and dividend warrants can be lodged into the customer’s account through any of the bank branches in Nigeria

All Nigerians who reside outside the country for more than 180 days in a year.

The Internet Banking Service is profiled to every new account opened, however, please consult with a Contact Center agent for assistance.

The username and password are system generated for confidentiality and sent to your registered e-mail address with the bank; please ensure your e-mail address is correctly filled out in your account opening form. You will also be prompted to set a secret question and answer. You may contact the Bank if you do not receive the notification sent you.

  • Fill the NRN update/reactivation form.
  • Provide a recent notarized utility bill or stamped bank statement (issued within the last 3 months) showing your address abroad.
  • You can notarize seamlessly at www.notarycam.com/gtbank. You may also chose to notarize with a lawyer, court, post-office or the Nigerian embassy.
  • Provide the data page of any of your Nigerian Regulatory issued ID (International passport, driver’s license, national ID etc), or provide your notarized foreign regulatory ID card.
  • A recent communique on "EU General Data Protection Regulation" requires that you fill our data consent form. This form is to be completed by residents in Europe while the bank files for future purpose and in line with EU General Data Protection Regulation.

  • Account must first be updated to NRN (requirements above).
  • Fill the Account collectible and indemnity form.
  • Token cost N2,100 plus 5% VAT of N105.
  • NRN Card issuance fee is N1, 050 (VAT inclusive).
  • Dollar Card costs N1, 000 or equivalent in Dollar (issuance fee) + annual maintenance fee $20 or equivalent in Naira.
  • Courier charge varies with location.

  • Provide a signed written instruction addressed to the bank indicating your account number, duration of the statement, name of the proxy, means of identification of the proxy and the branch you will like the proxy to pick up the statement.
  • Provide the data page of any of your Nigerian Regulatory issued ID (International passport, driver’s license, national ID etc), or provide your notarized foreign regulatory ID card.
  • The statement cost N20 per page.

  • Provide a signed written instruction addressed to the bank requesting for a reference letter and indicating the institution you want it addressed to, the pickup branch you want proxy to visit, the valid means of ID of proxy.
  • Provide the data page of any of your Nigerian Regulatory issued ID (International passport, driver’s license, national ID etc), or provide your notarized foreign regulatory ID card.
  • The reference letter cost N500.

  • Provide a signed instruction addressed to the bank indicating your account details, name of the new signatory, means of regulatory ID of the new signatory, the signatory mandate (either or both to sign), the branch the signatory will visit (if different from your domicile branch).
  • Provide the data page of any of your Nigerian Regulatory issued ID (International passport, driver’s license, national ID etc), or provide your notarized foreign regulatory ID card.
  • If additional signatory is not in the country, he/she would fill the mandate form and provide a valid ID.
